SEPEP stands for Sports Education in Physical Education Program. This program is constructed around a student-centred approach to physical education. Teachers take a step back and allow their students to take lead roles in developing collaborative working environments. As part of this, students had to work together, identify roles and responsibilities within their group, and as a result, gained valuable skills such as problem solving, communication and team work.

Students were put into groups of 6/7 people and had to participate in different roles, such as umpire, statistician, coaches, captains, sports board, and publicist. In the first couple of training sessions conducted by the coaches, students worked on court positioning and figuring out areas that needed attention. They tailored their team’s training to address their weaknesses, and began applying these principles in their competition.

The competition consisted of a range of minor round games, and concluded with a final series during week 8.

The year 9 champions were the ‘Black Panthers’ while the year 10 champions were ‘I Like Watermelons’.
