Principal's Address
Welcome to the start of the 2023 school year!
It was terrific to see families take the opportunity on Monday last week to meet new staff and to catch up with familiar faces. Meeting the teachers is a great way to make those initial contacts (or reaffirm existing ones) which make it easier to follow up on during the year. As I said on the night, please let us know if there are any questions about your young person's learning as we go during the year. It is much easier to get any concerns addressed early on. Our next formal opportunity to talk to teachers are the three way discussions on student progress (parent interviews) in week 9 and 10 but please don’t wait until then to make contact if you have anything to discuss.
Term 1 Activities
We have our usual busy term 1 planned, especially with a range of sporting activities and events including Swimming Carnival, Interschool swimming, sports day and interschool athletics, cross country and triathlon (see calendar attached for dates).
Year 7 Camp
As one of our first major activities, we were fortunate that Lake Bonney was back in action just in time for our new year 7s to be on camp last week. Students had a great time and it was great to see them have a go at the range of water activities on offer, often for the first time.
Governing Council AGM
Our AGM is coming up 22 March and we are keen for parents who are interested to contact us to nominate to be a member. We appreciate the parents and community members who volunteer their time to help in the governance and improvement journey of our school.
Some reminders:
- The standard of the uniform has been terrific by most students on our return to the school, please keep this up. Tight fitting pants (e.g. active wear, short shorts, tights/leggings) and hoods are not school uniform.
- Attendance by students is an important factor in their success at school. The beginning of the year is a great time to set in place the habit of being at school on time each and every school day.
- Students are not permitted to leave the school to go down the street during the day. This is in the interests of the safety and wellbeing of our students. Students who truant from school (or from school off-site activities) put at risk their ability to participate in opportunities such as excursions and camps.
- Daymap is an important method of communication with families and we encourage all parents and guardians to make use of this service. Instructions on accessing the Daymap program are attached to this newsletter, are available on our Facebook page and can be collected from the front office.
Newsletters are issued every 3 weeks and we encourage you to access them electronically from the schoolzine app.
I am looking forward to working with students, staff, families and our community as we continue to make our fantastic school even better throughout this year!
Regards,
Mat Evans
