25 enthusiastic students and two teachers set off at 5am on the bus to be at the Adelaide Convention Centre for the annual Meet the Writers festival on June 20^th. We were all impressed with Morris Gleitzman’s presentation that showcased his amazing ability to build problems in his stories and Jaclyn Moriarty’s seemingly unrelated anecdotes that tied together beautifully to underline the importance of resilience. Students had the opportunity to listen to two other authors in workshops of their own choice which gave them further insights into a range of writers including poets, screenwriters, graphic novelists, illustrators and young adult authors. We had a catch up in the library on the following Tuesday to share our experiences and students enjoyed the insight into the process of writing, the enthusiasm of the various writers and a hope that this opportunity would occur again in 2020.
