Aboriginal Education Bush Tucker Garden
Last week saw the planting of a 'Bush Tucker' garden in the beds between Dean Semler Design centre and the Mickan Gym. This garden is something I have always wanted to do with young people, and it was a good way to involve students in a project at school. Learning about any native bush foods is a great learning resource. We can learn about the different plants, where they are from and what they can be used for. It also provides a great avenue for cultural learning that is hands-on and requires teamwork.
Being able to put this garden together with young people and being able to just go pick something raw and straight off the tree or bush is exciting. Everyone will be able to benefit from this garden, and I am really looking forward to seeing it grow, expand and be something we can all enjoy.
