Congratulations and well done to Taj Saatze and Bailey White, who were both successful in receiving a silver medal at a recent Athletes SA and Running SA’s long course cross country championship held at Carisbrooke Reserve.  The two boys along with Isabella Cant will be heading off soon to compete in the School Sport SA Cross Country Team. All the best Taj, Bailey and Isabella.

Tag Rugby

On Thursday the 8th of August (Week 3) both the Year 8 and 9 boys and girls have the opportunity to take part in the Riverland High Schools Tag Rugby Carnival, being held on the Berri No.2 Oval. It is a great day run by High School and NRL staff, to provide students another opportunity to get out and be active.

5 A-Side Soccer

Later this term (19th September – week 9) the Glossop High School is hosting the Riverland High Schools 5 a-side soccer carnival. Boys and girls from Years 8-10 can get involved on the day. I will be asking for nominations soon, so please listen out for the daily notices.

Snow Trip

During the second week of the schools holidays, 24 senior students took off to Mount Hotham for the 2019 RHS Snow Trip. After a slow start due to a variety of reasons (bus break down, bus accident and extreme weather) the group had a great week, with many laughs and long lasting memories. To ensure the experience was even more enjoyable we were fortunate to have snow fall most evenings, providing us with fresh snow for the morning ski activities.

Each day consisted of a scheduled snowboard lesson with Mt Hotham staff, before the group explored other parts of the mountain while developing their skills. Every student chipped in and assisted with the cooking and other duties around the lodge before relaxing by the fire telling some stories about the day and playing games.

This year’s group picked it really quick even though it was the first time in the snow for the majority. This enabled them to explore more of the mountain and even attempt a few jumps. As the week went by there were a few sore and tired students but overall it was another great trip with the lodge manager praising the students for their efforts and attitude.

Bring on 2020!

Swimming

At a recent Short Course Carnival held at Marion Swimming Centre, Dylan White and Maddy Long had some success.

Dylan finished 2nd in his 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly and also collected 3rd in his 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke.

Maddy finished 2nd in her 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke.

At the State Short Course Championships Dylan White, Jordan White, Bailey White and Maddy Long all performed well (despite limited training) with them all achieving personal bests and several top 10 finishes. Well done for your efforts.

All the best to Dylan, who is currently in Melbourne competing at the Nationals.

RFLW Grand Finalist

Well done to the staff and students who competed in the RFLW Grand Final against Berri last Saturday. Unfortunately the result didn’t go our way but th eplayers had a great time and did the community proud. Each year the sport is becoming more popular so if you’re keen to have a kick and have some fun please talk to one of the girls.

Local Sport

As we are drawing near to finals in our local sports, all the best in your final few rounds and good luck in the finals.
