On Friday 8 March, Head Prefect Rachel F participated in The Advertiser Parliament at Parliament House in Adelaide for the opportunity to win a $10,000 scholarship for her education beyond high school. Rachel gave an impassioned speech highlighting the need for more awareness of politics in high schools to make future voters aware of Australia's political system and the issues the nation faces. Rachel expressed a concern about a political system with uninformed voters.
Rachel's performance saw her win one of the $10,000 scholarships provided by the Advertiser. She was in Adelaide on Friday 15 March to participate in the Advertiser's Building a Brighter, Better SA Forum and receive her scholarship in a formal ceremony involving Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Premier Peter Malinauskas, a wide variety of business leaders from across the nation and many South Australian politicians, community leaders and leading professionals. Rachel greatly enjoyed the opportunity to meet with many leaders, network, share ideas and work with her fellow scholarship winners.
Rachel explained that she intends to use the scholarship to fund college fees to pursue her dream of studying politics at university.
Rachel was also interviewed by ABC Riverland in the lead up to last Friday. To listen: https://www.abc.net.au/.../riverland-breakfast/103567850 starting at 2.38.08.
