Year 8 Drama: 'The Party'

The Year 8 Drama class focused on play and character building as well as off stage roles during the last half of the term. Students brainstormed themes and styles which were of interest to them and together created a dramatic play called ‘The Party.’ The play centred around two siblings left alone for the weekend while their parents were away. The older sibling, Riley, decided to organise a party to his brother’s horror. Guests began to arrive and mysteriously started to disappear shortly afterwards. Then an unwelcomed guest, Summer, arrived and the reason for the disappearing guests suddenly began to make sense.

The play was performed on Friday, 27th September in front of the year 8 cohort. Students' learning around team work, memorisation of lines, lighting, props and characterisation all came together successfully as the audience thoroughly enjoyed the energetic performance. Well done to the Year 8 Drama class who worked hard to put this play together.

Year 8 Food Technology: Muffin Design Project

The students’ task was to produce 6 muffins which were low in fat as well as high in complex carbohydrates for a school canteen catering for students with different cultural backgrounds. The muffins needed to also be low in cost and appeal to 12-17 year olds.

"We made Sweet Potato Muffins with corn and spring onions. No cheese and low fat milk ensured there were limited fats. The sweet potatoes are extremely high in complex carbohydrates and the extra vegetables were also healthy"

"I learnt that not all muffins are sweet. Most are savoury. I have enjoyed cooking. In general it is pretty fun. Looking forward to next year" Tyrone

"We made strawberry muffins. Our muffins were high in complex carbohydrates because of the strawberries and the grain that we added. The muffins were also low in fat as we only used a tablespoon of oil. I enjoyed making the muffins" Arman

"We made apple, cinnamon and yogurt muffins. Our muffins were low in fat because they didn’t include butters, margarines or oils and the yogurt was low in fat. I enjoyed being able to cook our own recipe and being able to taste other peoples" Froso
