Spain Soccer Experience

John.jpg
On the 25 January, year 12 student John C headed off to Spain (Madrid) for a trial with Celta De Vigo involving approximately 8 other participants across Australia. The experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity for John to further develop his skills and love for soccer while also experiencing the Spanish culture.
John was in Spain for 3 months, the longest time he has been away from his family, although he kept in regular contact through phone calls and Messenger.
John stayed with other participants from Australia and those from around the world for the duration of his visit.
A typical week for John involved soccer training and gym sessions (plus a little time for school work), and embrasing the experience.  John was fortunate to watch 5 games from the top soccer league and played 6 games against some of the local teams, (winning 4 of them).
The weekends provided greater flexibility allowing the group to explore the city surrounds, John particularly enjoyed the beaches.
John recanted the following highlights:
  • Meeting new people and making connections
  • Experiencing a very valuable opportunity, challenging himself against other teams/participants
  • Access to amazing soccer facilities and the opportunity to join one of the top league teams on a bus trip to the game.
  • Developing a deeper understanding on what is involved in playing soccer at a higher level.
John is now looking forward to the Renmark soccer season and is aiming to go back to Spain for another trial at the end of this year.
