Reconciliation Week Celebrations

Last Friday, Renmark High School came together to celebrate Reconciliation Week by hosting a breakfast at the Yarning Circle for local First Nations community, staff, students and families. Our SAASTA Connect students set up, cooked breakfast, baked cakes, and yarned with everyone in an event that showcased the strength of our community in an important week of acknowledgement and celebration.
Celebrations continued at the Reconciliation Assembly, Uncle Barney welcomed us with a smoking ceremony, and Declan and Shila presented their Acknowledgement of Country, sharing their culture and connection to community to all. Biljana Elliott, last year’s recipients of our Staff Reconciliation Award, spoke about her own journey towards reconciliation and shared a message of strength for our First Nation students. Students then presented their learning on reconciliation over the week, exploring themes of acknowledgement, empathy and understanding as steps towards reconciliation for all Australians.
We thank our staff, students, and community members for coming together and recognising this important week for all Australians.
