Lighthouse Youth Projects 'Balance' Program

We are partnering with Lighthouse Youth Projects to deliver their 'Balance' program which a is a bike-based mentoring program designed for students. The program consists of eight workshops that blends practical theory with exciting, deliberately challenging BMX activities that spark motivation, focus, and growth. The mentors, Ryan and Jamie, work closely with each young person to explore the “why” behind their behaviours and choices — helping them understand the experiences and influences that shape how they respond to the world. This increased self-awareness lays the foundation for positive choices, supporting their social and emotional development and building the skills they need to thrive.

Our youths have made impressive progress in the program! They have mastered essential safety procedures and learned a variety of skills. They’ve confidently navigated diverse terrains on their mountain bikes and even built jumps that allow them to catch maximum air while maintaining safe riding techniques.

Beyond physical skills, the youths have shown remarkable leadership and resilience, conquering numerous challenges such as riding significant distances. Some of our boys have learned new tricks in just a few sessions—skills that often take even experienced riders months to master such as bunny hops. box turns and foot jams. With every new challenge, they’ve grown, showing respect, reflecting on their behaviour, and continually striving to improve.
