Renmark High School

MEETING OUR FUTURE RHS STUDENTS

Thursday, week 2, year 7s from our local primary schools attended their third transition visit. This time, they were taken on a tour of the school by our year 8s. They were given the opportunity to each identify a question about high school.
Here are a couple of FAQs with the answers provided from our current year 8s:

Do we get homework?

“Yes, but not too much. You are given the right amount of class time but you might need to finish things at home”. Samara

“When there are assignments due, you tend to get more homework”. Marley

The amount of homework will vary for year 8s. In general, students will always have a book to read and some revision. If you find that you are spending hours a day on homework, it is time to contact your care group teacher to have a chat about what is going on for you.

How many kids are there in the school?

Renmark High School has about 480 enrolments. Next year we will have five care groups.

How long is the canteen open for?

“You can order your food on the app QKR in the morning and pick it up at lunchtime, but the canteen is also open each recess and lunchtime”. Kyle

What time do the bells go?

“The day starts at 8:50am, but the music goes at 8:45am so you need to be here before it finishes”. Casey

“Music starts playing 5 minutes before lesson; it gives you time to get to class”. Penny

What can we do in our break?

Hang out with Friends –Emma

Use sports equipment on the oval – Casey

Eat – Katie

Go to the library – Cooper

Volleyball training – Aiden

Whatever you want, as long as it is appropriate - Kyle

Is there a counsellor, and what extra support is there for students?

“Yes, there are Wellbeing Leaders, but there are other people in the school who can support you too. My care group teacher is my go to (8.2 care group)“.

Have a look at our website, to see some of the extra supports http://renmarkhs.sa.edu.au/school-life/wellbeing/
