In week 2 of this term, both of Mr. Clark’s year 9 Volleyball classes have been participating in SEPEP (Sports Education in Physical Education Program). The program involves the classes being split into 3 teams where every team member is given a role, which include sports board, coach, captain, umpire, statistician and publicist. Students are then in charge of creating a competition, developing and facilitating warm ups and training sessions, umpiring their games, collecting statistics, keeping a premiership ladder and producing a weekly newsletter.

The program allows students to take an active role in their education and develop their leadership qualities. Finals for both classes will begin in week 7 and presentations will follow with awards for the winning team, best and fairest and coaches award.

This term 8.2 have also been participating in a SEPEP program, with Tag Rugby as their sport. As we have a large class, we have 4 teams, which the students have named ‘Hamood Kinda Suss’, ‘Aussie Snake Shooters’, ‘Touchdown Direction’ and ‘Radioactives’. Last week was our first week of competition, with comp days on Wednesdays and Fridays in our lessons.

On these game days, each team conducts a warm up, sings their team chant to their opposition and then play a round robin competition, with the duty teams umpiring and scoring. On Friday, we saw our coaches in each team run their first training session, with all students participating positively. Each team is given points not only for the win, but also on how enthusiastically they sing their team chant, and how fairly and positively each team plays.

The competition will run until the end of week 7, with finals week being played in week 8 to determine the overall best team and the best and fairest presentation.
