SCHOOL SPORT
School Sport SA Triathlon
As in previous years, term 1 is quite busy with swimming and athletics, along with the opportunity to participate in the School Sport SA Triathlon event held in Adelaide (West Lakes). This year, Renmark High School entered 12 students (4 teams) who put their hand up for the challenge in warm conditions. Fortunately, the organisers made the decision to shorten the ride and the run as it continued to get warmer.
Earlier in the day, Bailey competed as an individual in the State trial. As always, he put in a huge effort against some of South Australia's top triathletes finishing in 3rd place overall. Well done, Bailey and all the best in September representing the state in Hervey Bay (Queensland).
Once the individual events concluded, it was time for our team events. Our teams consisted of;
Team 1: Maddy, Tiana and Jenna (5th)
Team 2: Jordan, Bailey and Jordan (5th)
Team 3: Zac, Ayden and James (9th)
Team 4: Charlie, Samuel and Lucas (6th)
All students demonstrated excellent althletic skills, battled hard and also had an enjoyable day. We look forward to involving more students in 2022 and compete in the individual and team events. Thank you to this year's competition for your committment and to Liz Beech for volunteering her time and assisting with the day.
Interschool Swimming Success
After a successful Renmark High School Swimming Carnival, Jodi, Karina and the PE staff analysed the results and selected a team to face up against the other Riverland High Schools. The team was quite young (with only one Year 12 student and six Year 11’s) but they were ready to put in a huge team effort to try and claim back the Championship Shield for 2021.
The students selected for the evening event, were all honoured and proud to represent the Renmark High School. This was demonstrated through their committment to their events throughout the evening with minimal changes required.
A great night supported by staff, many parents and family. Ultimately, all team members stepped up pushing as hard as they could, filling every event.
Students, staff and spectators remained anxious throughout the night despite the announcement of positive results score updates given. The team knew however that the job wasn’t done, as we still had the relays to go.
At the presentations, it was announced that Renmark High School had won 5 out of the possible 8 age group pennants (U14 boys, U15 boys, U20 boys, U16 girls and U20 girls) Nervously Renmark High School were announced 2021 Champions. (Renmark 832, Glossop 737, Loxton 723 and Waikerie 556). Well done also to Glossop High School, who were awarded Most Improved Shield.
A big thank you to the spectators for coming and supporting our students, Jodi and Karina (Coaches), Renmark Vitor Swimming Club, Peter Safralidis/Grant Fisher and the Loxton Staff for hosting the event, and our swimming team. All the best in Adelaide in week 6. GO RENMARK.
Athletics 1500m and 800m Finals
As the swimming is coming to an end, we begin to turn our focus to athletics. Students have been participating in various events during Physical Education lessons and lunch time trainings begin soon. Students had the opportunity to nominate for events at the assembly on Friday of Week 5. Any students absent on the day and would like to nominate please see Mr Camplin or a PE staff member.
In the coming week House Captains will be conducting trials to assist them in selecting their team. We encourage students to support their house captains and get involved to ensure that every event is filled. Sports Day is a great event and we look forward to seeing as many students Sports Day participate.
