ALEX CROWNED KING!

The Year 10 and 11 French students have been studying the French tradition of the ‘Epiphanie’ which takes place during the month of January. Historically, a religious festival, these days the French enjoy the experience of eating a ‘Galette des Rois’( Kings’ Cake) to celebrate the time of the year. Common place in all French bakeries, our class galette was homemade following a traditional recipe. A frangipane filled pastry, the tradition is that the cake is cut into pieces, enough for each person at the table plus an ‘extra’ for a passer-by. In one of the pieces, a ‘fêve’ or charm is hidden. The one who discovers the charm is crowned king or queen. Waiting eagerly for their piece, the French students carefully took bites out of their portion, hoping to find the charm and earn the crown. There can only be one winner, however and this year, it was Year 10 French student, Alex T. Bravo!
