FRENCH QUIZ
South Australian Year 8 French Quiz Night
Renmark High School entered two teams for the first time, in the annual South Australian Year 8 French Quiz Night held at St Peter’s College in Adelaide in Week 7.
Leaving Renmark High School at 9am, fourteen passionate Year 8 language students headed directly to ‘Paris Plage’, a specialist ‘crêperie’, to enjoy a delightful dining experience where students had to interact with French waiters by ordering their meals and drinks in French! An array of sweet and savoury crepes on the menu, students enjoyed this classic cultural experience, a first time for most but also wonderful culinary memories for three students who had already visited France.
Our next stop, was a visit to the ‘Alliance Française’, the South Australian headquarters of French language and culture in South Australia. Students went on a tour of the building and enjoyed some activities lead by French teacher, Maud, to build their conversation skills.
A lovely surprise for us all, was meeting up with Renmark High School, Year 10 student, Alex T, who was completing his Work Experience at the Alliance Française during the week.
A quick stop by famous French patisserie, ‘Mulots’ in Hyde Park, students took the opportunity to experience French pastries and cakes produced by a real French pastry chef. Délicieux!
Finally, we arrived at St Peter’s College where we competed against nine other schools all based in metropolitan Adelaide. We were acknowledged by organisers for our efforts coming all the way from Renmark to participate.
With six rounds of questions about language, geography, history, sport and French culture, our students, worked superbly in their teams throughout the night.
Students also participated in different games between rounds, from ‘Crêpe Tossing’ to ‘Pass the ‘Cochonnet’.
Renmark High School student, Anja T, represented the school in the song and poetry reciting section, outperforming the competition comprehensively with a rendition of the poem ‘L’Alphabet tombe du buffet’.
Accompanying teachers, Ms. Matulic and Mrs. Sotiroulis were impressed with the tenacity and team work on display during the quiz and throughout the day by all of the students who were outstanding representatives of our school and contributed to an enjoyable experience for everyone.
