RHS Upgrades
Having recently spent $2.5million on developing our new STEM spaces, one in the Maths/Science building and the other Arts and Digital Media, it is really exciting to have further new projects in the planning.
By the end of Term 3, a new fence will be installed around our site, continuing the existing fence line around Renmark Primary School. This new fence will define our area, our school, as part of our endeavour to raise our image and expectations of all who are on site.
Over the next 12-16 weeks we have architects involved in the planning stage of our new $5million capital works project. This is a chance to modernise other areas of our school and to prepare for when Year 7 students join us in High School.
Based on feedback from students, parents and staff the first thing we have on our list is upgrading our air-conditioning which will require a power upgrade.
We are also really excited about redeveloping the face of our school by relocating our front office administration into the old Tafe building on Thurk Street. This will work well with our plan to connect learning and Welbeing resources to improve the experience of our students by the development of our grounds to make areas more student friendly. Remodelling of the technology workshops and upgrading a Home Ec. kitchen facility is in the planning phase. In initial project estimates, the budget is unlikely to stretch far enough to include the Gym this time around.
Our new fence is being erected soon, the air-conditioning we are hoping to have installed over the Christmas school holidays, and the remainder of the works we expect will be completed by the end of 2020.
These are exciting times for Renmark High School!
Enjoy the upcoming holiday break, be safe, and see you next term at Expo.

Year 9 Digital Media Young Designers
Mrs Atsaves’ Year 9 Digital Media designers have completed creating and illustrating their cartoon characters using Adobe Illustrator. Their characters were inspired by cartoons from popular culture as well Japanese Anime. They are also learning about copyright and how important it is to use watermarks to protect their work online. Here are a few examples:
Do you or anyone you know might have a Digital SLR cameras you no longer need? Our school is looking to purchase some digital cameras for use in Visual Arts/ Digital Media/ Photography. Contact Darija Atsaves at school.
From Pammy – PCW
I hope you are looking forward to the holidays. I am currently on two weeks holidays which is lovely. I intend to spend time with our 4 little Cavalier doggies, read and enjoy nature and sunshine. That is the upside of my holidays. On the downside I will miss out on ABW which the Year 11’s do every year. It is a time of such energy, planning and excitement always with an excellent outcome. Every year I am so impressed with the ideas that these young people come up with and then execute in whatever business they (their team) choose.
To all of RHS community I hope you have wonderful school holidays filled with lots of laughter, smiles and love.
“A day without laughter is a day wasted” – said by Charlie Chaplin. So true in my world. Until next term …be happy and keep smiling your beautiful smiles.
Meet the Writers Excursion to Adelaide
25 enthusiastic students and two teachers set off at 5am on the bus to be at the Adelaide Convention Centre for the annual Meet the Writers festival on June 20th. We were all impressed with Morris Gleitzman’s presentation that showcased his amazing ability to build problems in his stories and Jaclyn Moriarty’s seemingly unrelated anecdotes that tied together beautifully to underline the importance of resilience. Students had the opportunity to listen to two other authors in workshops of their own choice which gave them further insights into a range of writers including poets, screenwriters, graphic novelists, illustrators and young adult authors. We had a catch up in the library on the following Tuesday to share our experiences and students enjoyed the insight into the process of writing, the enthusiasm of the various writers and a hope that this opportunity would occur again in 2020.

After the recent success at the Riverland High School Cross County event, 15 students travelled down to compete at the School Sport SA Cross Country Championships at Oakbank. Compared to previous years, conditions were ideal, allowing the students to compete to the best of their ability.
Some of the results include:
- 2nd Bailey (U13)
- 4th Jaj (U14 mutil-class)
- 14th Tyler (U14
- 15th Haylee (U16)
- 19th Dylan (U16)
- 22nd Madelyn (U14)
After the event students were selected to try out for the School Sport SA Cross Country team that will compete in Wollongong (NSW) in late August. Taj, Bailey and Isabella were all successful in gaining selection in the team (3 out of 7 from the Riverland).
All the best to Taj, Bailey and Isabella at the School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships and well done to the other students who participated on the day.
2019 Snow Trip
We hope all students travelling to Mt Hotham (Victoria) for the 2019 RHS Snow Trip have a great time and relax before commencing the final part of their schooling.
School Sport SA Interstate Swimming Championships
All the best to Dylan who is competing at the School Sport SA Interstate Swimming Championships being held in Melbourne during late July. In preparation, Dylan has competed with many school and community swimming events. Dylan has been training on his own and with Kerri Donaldson while also juggling his commitments with West Adelaide (Football). Keep training hard over the next few weeks and enjoy yourself.
Volleyball success
Earlier in the term the Year 10 Boys and Girls competed in the School Sport SA Knockout Volleyball round robin at the MARS Sporting Complex. Both teams put up a great fight, unfortunately the boys lost an important game, and missed out on competing in the finals.
The girls were excited as they had the opportunity to compete in the finals in 2018, against some of the best volleyballs in the state. The day started with a minute silence, with all of the students reflecting and showing their respect to the team mates, staff, family and friends of Sophia Naismith (Brighton Secondary School).
Brighton, Heathfield, Willunga, Seaview, Victor Harbor and Renmark competed on the day. We played against some great opposition and it was a great experience for the girls. Considering the group has not played much since the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup, they were very competitive although both Heathfield and Brighton were the stand out teams.
After losing to Heathfield in the first game, the girls pulled it together and had a great win against Victor Harbour. This meant that we finished 3rd in our pool and qualifying for a semi-final match against Brighton Secondary School. Similar to the Heathfield game, the girls displayed some great plays although Brighton were more consistent and effective across the court. This meant that we would play off for 3rd or fourth in the state against Seaview.
It was a long day for girls but they battled hard and achieved the win, meaning they finished 3rd in the School Sport SA Knockout Volleyball Competition for the second time in a row (2018 3rd to Heathfield and Brighton).
Congratulations on your efforts!
