We acknowledge that Renmark High School students, staff and community live, study and work on Erawirung Land. We acknowledge the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee as Traditional Custodians of the Riverland region and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We respect the deep connection Aboriginal people have with land, animals and waters.
We honour the Lores and customs that cross this traditional Country, the Ancestors who taught and still teach the knowledge that is embedded forever with Aboriginal people today.

Sakina's success
Congratulations to Sakina Q who has won the Australian School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year Award recently at the Australian Training Awards (ATA) in Adelaide, SA. This is a significant achievement and a testament to the dedication Sakina applies to all that she does. Sakina is currently studying year 11 at Renmark High School, while also working at Renmark Club and undertaking a Certificate III in Hospitality. Thank you to the Renmark Club for being a local employer for school based apprentices and providing opportunities for students to work, train and continue to complete their schooling. Congratulations Sakina!
BYOD program

In 2023 we are expecting year 9-12 students to bring their own laptops or borrow one for use during the school day from the library. Purchasing a device makes a student’s computer available for both school and at home use, which is a significant advantage in our digital age. Many of our students already have their own devices and bring them to school. For other families, security has been a concern and a barrier to bringing a laptop to school, however, we are now installing a locker for EVERY student over the holidays so this is no longer an issue. You are able to purchase a laptop yourself, or bring one that you may already have from home, however, we do have some recommended models currently on the school's Edunet portal. The options (including a Mac) are school student-use recommended and parents can buy outright computers or through a payment plan. All devices on Edunet have been approved for school use at Renmark High School. For further information, please follow the link: http://renmarkhs.sa.edu.au/.../11/RHS-SpecSheets-22-23.pdf. As more students bring their own computer, school funds become available to invest in the network itself and the other technological tools that can be used by students. If you have any further questions please let us know.
Student home internet program
The student home internet program can provide internet access to students who do not have reliable home internet, so they can continue to learn and study at home. Find out more about the program and how parents and carers can apply by visiting the department’s website at www.education.sa.gov.au/student-home-internet-program
Renmark High school students have had another successful year, taking advantage of the fantastic opportunities available in a wide range academic and extra-curricular activities. Some of these have included language competitions, drama performances, a huge range of interschool and Adelaide sporting competitions (including volleyball, football, soccer, athletics, swimming), market days, Cows Create Careers, Australian Business Week, NAIDOC week, Harmony Day, Super 8 Cricket, careers expos, prom, French quiz nights, maths quiz nights, Agriculture Innovation boot camp, song writing workshops, an illustrator visit, music performances, university pathways camps, and the Flinders University mentoring program. We also hosted the Flinders University Regional Open Day, students took sheep to the Adelaide Show, have been involved in Greek and Japanese online cultural exchanges, and a range of other camps and excursions (including surfing, kayaking, bushwalking, mountain bike riding, volleyball camp and French trip) … there is way too much to list it all!
We have also had year 7 students join us for the first time this year. This has been a great success due to the preparation work we have done with primary school staff, students and parents in the last couple of years. I thank everyone for your support through this.
Our school improvement journey has continued this year. Students and staff have also had time this year to enjoy our renovated learning spaces, furniture and the air conditioning without them being a building site!
To our year 12s, the Renmark High School class of 2022, I wish you good luck on behalf of our Renmark High School Community. We have seen you grow into the fine young men and women that will make your families proud. You haven’t let the complexities of life (including COVID!) throughout your senior schooling to get in the way of pursuing your dreams and we look forward to hearing about your future endeavours.
Thank you to the parents and caregivers, the family members, and the volunteers who all contributed significantly to the successes of all of our students. Thank you to the many others who have significantly supported the school this year, including the SRC whom staff, students and families have appreciated their efforts throughout the year. Thank you to our SRC leaders Judd H, Madelyn L, Colby L, and Kira W for your leadership and school representation. Thank you to Governing Council Chair Darren Bussenschutt and our Governing Council members who continue to volunteer their time and support myself and our school in our journey of improvement. And of course a huge thank you to all of our staff who do an extraordinary amount of extra effort across the school, without which we would not enjoy the student successes we have today. We have amazing staff here at Renmark High School that go above and beyond, every single day in their continued pursuit of supporting students to be successful.
Farewells
We do have some longer term staff members leaving us this year, after more than 10 years of service to Renmark High School. Amy Evans, Assistant Principal who during the year has won Principal of Loxton High School and Lori Sandland, who is on leave from our Alternative Learning Leader position but who has now also won a leadership position at Loxton High School. We also have two long term staff members who have been on leave from Renmark High School but have now taken up positions in other schools. These are Melek Demir, admin and classroom support officer who is in a school in Adelaide and Kathryn Jenner, Lab Technician, who is now at Berri Regional Secondary College. As for 2023, we are still finalising some staffing, however, there are a few farewells for staff that we know that won’t be here next year. Design and Technology teacher Matt Gove who is off to Pt Pirie, Middle School and Home Economics teacher Jo Cole who is returning to Berri Primary School, English and HASS teacher Erin Pick who is teaching in Adelaide next year, English and HASS teacher Michele Moore who has spent some time with us this year but returns to Adelaide, and Maths and Science teacher Jeremy Blackwell who is also leaving.
I am proud to be your site leader, and enjoy seeing Renmark High School students, families staff, and the wider community continue to build our school from strength to strength. I wish everyone a happy and safe school holidays and look forward to working with you in 2023 with our continued school focus on Literacy, Numeracy and the wellbeing of our students.

Uncle Barney's 40 Years Celebration
Renmark High School celebrated Howard Lindsay (Uncle Barney) and his 40 years of service to the Department for Education. Uncle Barney is a well-respected, loved, and valued member of the Renmark High School community and dedicates his time to teaching students about Aboriginal language, culture and history.
Year 9 & 10 Volleyball SEPEP 2022
SEPEP stands for Sports Education in Physical Education Program. This program is constructed around a student-centred approach to physical education. Teachers take a step back and allow their students to take lead roles in developing collaborative working environments. As part of this, students had to work together, identify roles and responsibilities within their group, and as a result, gained valuable skills such as problem solving, communication and team work.
Students were put into groups of 6/7 people and had to participate in different roles, such as umpire, statistician, coaches, captains, sports board, and publicist. In the first couple of training sessions conducted by the coaches, students worked on court positioning and figuring out areas that needed attention. They tailored their team’s training to address their weaknesses, and began applying these principles in their competition.
The competition consisted of a range of minor round games, and concluded with a final series during week 8.
The year 9 champions were the ‘Black Panthers’ while the year 10 champions were ‘I Like Watermelons’.

Aboriginal Languages and Culture Class -On Country Assignment

Students participated in an excursion to Bookmark Creek and Calperum Station to reflect on their own thoughts and perspectives of being surround by nature and the environment and what it means to them. Students listened to the viewpoints of others as they talked about what being on Country means to First Nations people, themselves and others, and they summarised their thoughts for each person.

Revolting Rhymes
On Tuesday 29 November, the year 7 drama students performed Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes to the year 7 cohort.
"Performing this play has taught me many new skills. I learnt to be confident when performing. I learnt that when you do a performance you have to set up right at the front and face the audience all the time. I learnt to speak up. I learnt that it is important to rehearse because you need to be able to memorise your lines so your play makes sense and it flows. Memorising the script was something new for me too. We all learnt a little on how to write plays as we added a whole part to the play to make it more interesting for the audience. Our team worked really well because we all included each other’s ideas and encouraged each other to do our best." - Maddison

There aren't any lions or tigers, but there certainly are bears... polar bears! Students in Miss Caputo's year 8 HASS class have created Tundra landscapes using a range of materials to represent various features of the biome. Tundra ecosystems are treeless regions found in the Arctic where climate is cold and rainfall is scarce - even less than a desert! Students created their Tundra diagrams and noted key features through verbal presentations; and even topped off their creation with plastic animals native to this region.

Senior Leader Literacy and Global Perspectives
On Thursday 1 December, Adelaide Football Club visited Renmark High School for a talk with The Advertiser Foundation about how the Riverland region is being affected by the floods. Students were later invited over to the school oval for a ‘kick and catch’ with the football players. Minister for Education, Blair Boyer MP along with Tim Whetstone - Member for Chaffey visited and joined in on the fun, engaging in rounds of Marks Up. Students were given the opportunity to receive autographs from football players and enjoyed some healthy snacks, kindly donated by Koch's Foodland Renmark.
This morning Ms Elliott presented two Premier's Reading Challenge certificates to sisters, Annika and Arielle. Annika has participated in the yearly event for 8 years, and Arielle for 10 years! Well done girls, a great achievement to you both.

In the Learning Hub this week, students Samara and Zoey used our donated fruit from Renmark Foodland and the Adelaide Crows to make banana bread, apple pie, stewed apples, apple strudel and poached pears.
